Distribution Company using Odoo 17
Company X is a large wholesale distributor of bakery ingredients. Its customer base includes beverage shops and bakeries. The company has only one vendor, its parentcompany, which manufactures and imports these ingredients. The parent company then distributes the ingredients to its subsidiary companies, including Company X.

Why the customer chose Odoo?
They recognized that Odoo could manage documents, sales data, and warehouse operations, as well as other internal processes. Compared to other ERP systems like SAP, which may require more time and investment.
Also, some users have experience with Odoo from the parent company (which uses a previous version of Odoo). They understand well how Odoo can efficiently manage business activities. Therefore, they want to implement the current version of Odoo (version 17) to manage sales, purchase, accounting, and warehouse management data for Company X.
The Challenge
- Odoo version 15 used at the parent company has several customizations, and they cannot immediately decide which of these customizations are unnecessary for Company X's operations.
- They have 3 warehouses (in 3 provinces) - each with separate sub-locations (stock, shelf) within them.
- They do not want warehouse admins to view the remaining stock quantities from other warehouses, and each admin will only be able to view stock location reports of their own warehouse.
- 2 admin users from 'Warehouse B' and 'Warehouse C' must be able to create picking operations from ‘Warehouse A’ to their own warehouse.
- They want to import product images from the parent company's Odoo to Company X's Odoo.
- They have different packagings for purchasing and selling.
- Use Lot/Serial Numbers and include the product expiration date.
- They have opening stock quantities with Lot/Serial Numbers, and some items have the same lot number but are in different warehouse locations.
- They would like to use the Thai Localization for accounting
Solution
- Import all master data from the parent company's Odoo version 15 to Odoo version 17.
- Upload all product images as Base64-encoded JPEG strings.
- Setting record rules for quotation and sales order lines that occur under each warehouse.
- Setting Record Rule conditions by using Location IDs to prevent viewing Move History between warehouses.
- Setting record rules in the Transfer model by adding the stock Location ID under Warehouse A to allow Warehouse B and Warehouse C staff to pick products from Warehouse A.
- Upload the current stock on hand with Lot/Serial numbers and different locations.
- Adapt the layout and size of the of the product label.

The project with Company X using Odoo went smoothly and faster than expected. We implemented the entire system in less than 1.5 months, and when the Go-Live day arrived, they were able to start using it immediately.
